Events

Autumn 2017:
I am looking forward to working with Supervalu and Laya Healthcare by supporting the SuperTrooper Nutri-Safari programme for schools!

I will be visiting the following Supervalu stores:
Ryan's Supervalu Grange, Cork
Daly's Suervalu, Killarney, Kerry
Jones's Supervalu, Miltown Malbay, Clare

Summer 2017:

All the food that we eat has to be bought first! Knowing your way around a supermarket is an essential skill to a healthier diet!  During the Summer I will be conducting supermarket tours.

Come along to find out more about:
 - identifying a variety of healthful food options,
 - how to read nutrition labels on food packaging,
 - what is in the ingredients listings,
 - bring home information for continued healthy food shopping

Each tour takes 1.5-2 hours and we walk around the various food aisles.  All you have to bring are your questions about a healthier lifestyle! Remember, food is your first line of defense against chronic disease!

For more information or to find your nearest supermarket tour contact me.

Preschool Healthy Eating Workshop.

The preschool years are widely recognised by health professionals as a critical time during which the foundation of good health and the prevention of disease is established for later life through the provision of good nutrition. However, it is also a time when young children like to assert their independence and mealtimes can become a battleground!

This 2 hour workshop is for parents of preschool children (aged 2-5 years) who would like to learn more about feeding their children and coping with common feeding problems to ensure optimum nutrition, growth and health.

Topics covered include:
•Healthy eating for preschool children- what foods and how much?
•Common feeding/nutritional problems, e.g. fussy eating, constipation, anaemia
•Establishing happy mealtimes
•Being Active
•Budgeting and meal planning

Feedback from Limerick workshop held on 25th May 2016:
"I attended the nutrition workshop last night for 2 - 5 year olds and it was very informative and well run evening. Got some great ideas and tips from Anne. I would highly recommend these workshops" - Jennifer, Mum of 3 year old

"Set-up, introductions, the agenda sent before hand, the opportunity to outline what I wanted from the course and hear what others were looking for from the course. The visuals of the portion sizes on the plates, the amount of info covered and the books and leaflets provided when we left. I thought it was all very thorough and I am very particular on meeting outputs ( it's what I do). Really super value for money. It expanded my thinking but also gave me a comfort level that I was doing ok too. Very non-judgemental and comfortable. " - Natalie, Mum of 20 month old

"Loved the fact that Anne was so open and has children herself so could relate to our problems" - Anne, Mum of 2 & 4 year olds

Weight Matters: Understanding childhood overweight, a workshop for parents

With one in five Irish children currently overweight or obese you may be concerned about managing your child's weight? Overweight children become overweight adults. Overweight children are suffering from chronic disease earlier in their lifetime compared to their healthy weight friends. These diseases include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and elevated blood cholesterol levels.  There are also psychological effects such as low self-esteem, negative body image and depression.

If you are concerned that your child is at risk of overweight contact me here.

This programme is for parents of children aged 0-12 years who are concerned about their children's weight. Topics covered will include:

  • Recognising when weight is getting ahead of height in a growing child.
  • Understanding the balance between food eaten and activity taken.
  • Identifying barriers  and enablers to healthy eating and active living.
  • Exploring a family based approach to developing healthy habits.
